Schedule & Logistics

Foote administration, faculty and staff spent several months preparing for a safe return to campus and reimagining our academic program to deliver the best possible experience for children in these extraordinary times.

Every one of us plays a critical role in keeping our community healthy. By looking out for one another and following public health guidelines, we can look forward to many months of happy in-person learning.

Schedule

In-person learning takes place four days a week, Monday to Thursday. Fridays are reserved for remote learning; connecting with students who are not able to come to campus; and faculty planning and professional development. More information about the schedule can be found in the Academic Program section.

For those students who are not able to return to campus, we offer a remote learning option.

Cohorts

To reduce the number of students in each classroom—and create as safe an environment as possible—students are grouped into stable cohorts.

  • A stable cohort is when students remain together, and different adult teachers move between classrooms in that grade.
  • Grades K–5: Each class is no larger than 12 students. Together, the classrooms in each grade will form a stable cohort. Each grade has one in-person specials teacher assigned to that grade.
  • Grades 6–9: Cohorts are no larger than 11 students. Each grade has an interdisciplinary team of teachers, including one specials teacher, who teach in person.

Drop-Off

  • Parents drop off their children curbside at designated times and locations on campus.
  • Prior to drop-off, all students are required to complete a short health screening at home.
  • As a safety measure, parents are currently not allowed on campus.
  • Staff are present to greet younger students and walk them to class.

Pick-Up

  • Staggered pick-up begins each day at 2:55 p.m.
  • There is currently no After School Program.
  • Students are dismissed to their designated pick-up location.
  • Staff are on hand to facilitate pick-up.

The Role of Families

The health and safety of our community is everyone's responsibility and families are critical partners in this effort.

  • Keep your child home if s/he is sick.
  • Follow all relevant orders from state, federal and local officials, including quarantining if you have traveled to a coronavirus hot spot or are otherwise ordered to do so.
  • COVID testing and notification: Let the Foote's Health Office know immediately if you or someone you have been in contact with has tested positive for COVID-19.
  • Travel: Families should follow all State of Connecticut travel guidelines and restrictions, and are strongly urged to limit out-of-state travel.
  • Daily health screening: On-campus learners must complete a daily health screening at home before coming to school. Faculty and staff complete the same daily health screening.
  • Face masks: Everyone on campus is required to wear a face mask that completely covers the nose and mouth while indoors.
  • Hygiene: Regular hand washing and/or use of hand sanitizer occurs throughout the day.

Contingency Plans

  • Remote Learning: If public health conditions worsen to the point where we had to close campus, all students would transition to full remote learning. Each student would have use of their school-issued device (iPad or Chromebook) at home and a schedule that prioritizes face-to-face meetings, the social-emotional wellbeing of children, an interdisciplinary curriculum and continuity in academic instruction.
