Suspended Moods Revisited

At the start of this school year, the entire Foote community took part in a public art project called "Suspended Moods." Designed by artist and Foote parent Megan Craig, the installation captured the collective mood of the school as the year began by having each child and adult paint a bamboo stick with a color corresponding to their mood at the time.

As a bookend to this year, we want to take another snapshot of our community's mood during this unusual time.

Here's how it will work:

Choose ONE of the categories from the list below that best describes how you're feeling today. Don't worry about finding a word that perfectly matches your mood; just choose the category that comes closest to your dominant mood at the moment you're doing the project.
Collect objects in the color of the mood you chose from around your house and put them together in one place. Or, dress in the color of your mood, or dress your pet in the color of your mood! Use anything in the color of your mood that you can take a picture of. It could be one object (like your own shoe or an orange), or it could be many objects (or people or animals) grouped together. Just make sure your collection shows the color of the mood you choose.
Take a digital photo of your mood color collection. Email it to megan@megancraig.com or text it to 917-282-7798. The deadline for submissions is Friday, May 29.
Megan will collect the images and create a digital flip book of the moods to share with the entire school.

Seeking Parents for Focus Groups

Foote is looking for a few parents who would be interested in sharing big-picture feedback on our distance learning experience and providing input as we approach some of the decisions that will need to be made around reopening campus in September.

Focus group meeting days and times are:

Monday, June 1 at 4:30 p.m.
Wednesday, June 3 at 4:30 p.m.

Our goal is to put together two diverse parent focus groups that represent a cross-section of our school. If you are interested in participating, please email Silvia Gee at sgee@footeschool.org and indicate which of the dates you would be available. Please know that we may not be able to accommodate all interested parents.

Support the Food Drive

Foote is holding a schoolwide food drive for the CT Food Bank, which is in dire need of supplies. Click here for a list of items requested by the food bank.

On Saturday, May 30, from 1–3 p.m., parent volunteers will be stationed to collect the donations at the following locations:

Branford - Commuter Parking Lot near exit 53
Guilford - Guilford Racquet Club, 420 Church St.
Hamden - Hamden Public Library, 2901 Dixwell Ave.
Milford - Milford Public Library, 57 New Haven Ave.
New Haven - Foote School, Loomis Place, main walkway
New Haven - Westville, Mitchell Branch Library, 37 Harrison St.
North Haven - Park and Ride across the street from Yale-New Haven medical center, 6 Devine St.
Wallingford - Wallingford Public Library, 200 N. Main St.
Woodbridge - Woodbridge Town Library, 10 Newton Road

If you are not comfortable driving to these drop-off locations, a Foote volunteer would be happy to come to your home to pick up a bag of items on that same day. Please be in touch with thelift@footeschool.org if you would like to arrange a pick-up.

Order Spring 2020 T-Shirts

Every student will be receiving a "Foote Spring 2020" t-shirt, designed by 9th grader Kwasi Adae. These creative shirts are in lieu of this year's Field Day t-shirt and, in the spirit of unity, will be grey with maroon writing!

If you haven't already done so, please fill out the order form by Tuesday, May 26. Please order one t-shirt for each child. Adult t-shirts will be available for purchase at a later date.

Have You Checked Out Sora Yet?

If you haven't done so already, we encourage you to explore Sora, the ebook and digital audio platform that is now available to all Foote families.

Students can access Sora from their Google accounts by clicking the "waffle" grid and selecting the icon shown above. You can also access Foote's Sora account via web browser by clicking here.

The first time a student uses the app, they will need to log in with their Google credentials.

Need Masks? Foote Can Help

Are you in need of masks? The Lift at Foote, our new parent-run support network, can help. Ann Baker Pepe, Foote's former director of development and a gifted seamstress, is offering to stitch masks for families who need them. If you would like to request a mask—or other support services such as help getting groceries—please email thelift@footeschool.org.
