Dear Grade 1 Families,
Happy summer! Today, I am asking you to do something a little different: to judge our library books by their covers. Not the magnificent images or even the titles, but the small sticker on the spine.
On every picture book in our library there is a sticker with the letter "E." This "E" stands for 'everybody.' It is easy to overlook but, in truth, it tells our story. The Foote School library belongs to all of us. We look forward to safely welcoming you and your children into the library and to sharing our incredible collection with you all. Our goal is simple: we want to create lifelong readers, and at Foote, the summer reading program is where this journey begins.
Every year all Foote students receive a summer reading book. This book is selected by the teaching team for the grade your child will be entering this coming fall and is generously funded by the Foote School PTC. The summer book for the First Grade class of 2021-2022 is Juana and Lucas by Juana Medina. While some children may be able to read the words in the book, we ask that a parent read this book aloud. It is funny, charming and filled with heart!
We have posted additional lists of suggested summer reading by grade level on our library page. It is a wonderful resource. This is also where you will find the link to SORA, our digital library collection. Until we can be together, our best piece of advice is to read what you love: recipes, maps, postcards, cereal boxes, and of course, books. Just keep reading. Listen to audiobooks, podcasts and to each other. Visit your local library, look for local library book sales and always peek into "little free libraries." You will find treasures. We guarantee it! We wish everybody a wonderful summer filled with health, sunshine, laughter and stories!
Your librarians,
Jennifer Friedman Anna Stover Katie Santomasso
P.S. As we look toward the fall, we are planning for the reopening of our library to families. Details to follow.
