The Math Experience

Program overview:
Spotlight: Seventh Grade Advanced Algebra I
This seventh grade Advanced Algebra I project allowed students to use Desmos, an online graphing calculator, and their knowledge of the parabolic, square root, and cube root functions — and the related graphs — to create images. While students had to meet some basic criteria to fulfill the assignment, they were encouraged to use personal knowledge and the open code resources of Desmos to be as creative as possible. Take a scroll through some of the amazing works that emerged from this assignment!
Lower School Math Program

Because of my experiences in math, I’ve developed a lot of important skills — especially organization and time management. ... I’ve also become known for my note-taking skills, which I take a lot of pride in — those detailed notes have definitely saved me more than once!

Through my math experience, I’ve also developed a lot of important qualities as a learner. I’ve learned to be okay with making mistakes and not understanding something right away. I’ve become more patient with myself and realized that if I keep working hard and ask for help when I need it, I will get there eventually. My teachers have taught me that mistakes are actually part of learning — and that’s a lesson I’ll carry with me beyond math class.

But one of the wonderful things about Foote is that the teachers can really tell when you’re struggling. They notice when you’re having a hard day, and they always find ways to help you feel supported and encouraged. The small class sizes make it easy for teachers to connect with each student and make sure everyone is getting the help they need.
