Reflections from the Road
Below are some of our Middle School students' reflections from their travels to China, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and beyond!
Before departing Changsha, we went to visit another new school, Cogdel Cranleigh School. We spent the morning touring their state-of-the-art facilities and engaging in fun activities, namely trying out some of the choreography for their upcoming production of The Wiz.
We visited a new Yali-affiliated school, Yalu, for the first time in Foote's history! We spent the afternoon participating in various activities like indigo tie dye, traditional knot-making, and baking.
Students enjoyed an afternoon participating in various activities, including mask decoration, flower arrangement, Kung Fu, and culminated with making dumplings for dinner.
We said goodbye to our intrepid Chengdu guide, Carol, and took a quick flight to Changsha, capitol of Hunan province, where we were welcomed with open arms by friends new and old from our sister school, Yali!
Our afternoon was exciting and bittersweet, as we learned about the lion dance performed during Lunar New Year celebrations, and saw it up close!
We took a riverboat to see the Leshan Buddha. Built to protect mariners, the world's largest sitting Buddha, measuring 233 feet tall.
The sacred Mount Emei is home to several Buddhist and Daoist temples, and today we visited two.
Today we traveled to Dujiangyan, a smaller city nearby at the eastern foothills of the Himalayas, to visit the Dujiangyan Giant Panda breeding base. There, students got an up-close view of pandas living their best lives, growing and living safely until they are trained to survive on their own in the wild.
We learned about Magnetic Levitation and watched as Dorothea pushed a train car three feet with one hand, only to have Zachary push it right back!
