Poem: Reality of Slavery
Witness Stones Project ’23

By Ava Rose & Cosma Gregg ’25

You want to know what they did in slavery?…what they do now.

In 1860 there were 384,884

slave owners in the south

They Whipped my father

A Negro has got no name

cause he looked at a slave they killed and cried

Always uneasy

Ashamed

Collar with bells

Some would rather be killed

Some preferred to kill themselves if they were faced with the possibility of being captured
