D.C. Day 2: Memorable Memorials
DC Day 2
DC Day 2

Our second day in D.C. was packed full with exciting adventures, fun activities, and new experiences. We began the day with a hearty breakfast in our hotel, before proceeding to the bike shop to begin our first adventure of the day. The bright sun and the warm weather provided the perfect backdrop for a great day in the city.

We split into groups for biking, and we were on our way. Our tour guide led us along the shore of the Potomac River. Our first stop was the Jefferson Memorial, after which we made our way to the MLK Memorial. Seeing the waterfall and the sculpture of Martin Luther King Jr. was truly amazing.

For the next part of the bike tour, we stopped at the Korean War Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial, the Vietnam Memorial, and the WWII memorial. Seeing all of the amazing memorials and monuments was amazing, and we all got some great pictures.

To wrap up the bike tour, our group took a photo at the base of the Washington Monument. The scale of the monument was truly incredible, and we all learned some amazing history about its construction. We then circled back along the bank of the Potomac River and the Washington Marina to the bike shop, where we concluded our adventure.

After our amazing bike ride, we boarded the bus for lunch. By the time we finished, we were all feeling refreshed and ready for the second half of the day.

The next stop on our list was the U.S. Capitol Building, where we walked up the steps to meet Rep. Debbie

DC Day 2

Dingell (D-MI). We took a group photo with her and we took the opportunity to ask her questions about her work in Congress. It was a really special opportunity, but we soon moved on to the visitor center, where we spent an hour or so on a guided tour inside the Capitol Building. It was really cool to see the inside of the place that runs our government. We saw the Rotunda and other amazing rooms and statues.

Leaving the Capitol Building, we headed over to the United States Memorial Holocaust Museum. This truly touched the hearts of many in our group. We were given time to explore the museum on our own, and there was a lot to take in. Getting to explore the museum independently gave us time to both reflect and learn more about a topic that has affected so many.

As we quietly concluded our time at the museum, we took a short ride to the National Mall to have some fun and a pizza dinner. We all took pictures, played catch, and ate some great food as we made some amazing memories.

To wrap up the day we headed back on the bus to the Pentagon 9/11 Memorial. There, we learned some background and important information about 9/11 and how it affected the Pentagon. We spent about an hour walking through the memorial, and the gentle glow of the lights and the rustle of the leaves in the trees gave us a peaceful atmosphere for remembrance and reflection.

By the end of our time at the memorial, we were all exhausted and ready to head back to the hotel. It was a truly multifaceted day that left the entire group with not just memories of fun moments and important information, but a drive to continue our adventure throughout D.C.

Another amazing day awaits us tomorrow!
