D.C. Day 1: Exploring Art & History
dc day 1

On Tuesday morning, eighth grade students and trip advisors met at school bright and early on Loomis Place and loaded buses with suitcases to begin their journey to Washington, D.C. Despite the long trip and early start, the students got off the bus ready and eager to start touring museums.

First up was The National Gallery of Art, where guided tours focused on sculpture and impressionist art, including numerous iconic self-portraits and works of art. A tour of the Sculpture Garden outside of the gallery featured many interesting statues created through different media.

Next was the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, where the students explored the museum's vast resources and dynamic exhibits. After a trip to the Smithsonian Museum of American History, the students and faculty walked along the National Mall and took pictures of the beautiful Washington Monument before heading back to the bus.

The final stop was in Old Town Alexandria for some free time and dinner. At each stop throughout the day, students shared — with each other and anyone else who stopped to listen — relevant information from the research topics they studied in their Humanities classes.
