Teacher's Book Earns Nutmeg Nomination

Congratulations to fifth grade teacher Jake Burt, whose debut novel, Greetings from Witness Protection!, is a finalist for the 2020 Nutmeg Book Award in the "Intermediate 4–6" category.

The book, about about orphaned girl placed with a family hiding in witness protection, previously won the Connecticut Book Award and has been nominated for awards in 10 states and counting!

Sponsored by the Connecticut Library Association and the Connecticut Association of School Librarians, the Nutmeg Book Award encourages children in grades 2–12 to read quality literature and to choose their favorite from a list of 10 nominated titles. This year's winners were recently announced (Jake's book will be voted on by children next spring).

Jake's second novel, The Right Hook of Devin Velma, was released last fall and he is currently readying for the launch of his third novel, The Tornado, this October. That will be followed by a fourth book, Cleo Porter and the Body Electric, in the fall of 2020.

Jake was interviewed for our "Foote Features" podcast series back in the fall. Click here to listen.
