Screening of 'Free Renty' Oct. 18
MOSAIC FALL EVENT

MOSAIC (Multicultural, Open minded, Supportive, Accepting, Inclusive, Community) invites the Foote community to attend a special screening of the film Free Renty on October 18, from 6–8 p.m., followed by a Q&A with Tamara Lanier.

This groundbreaking film documents the ongoing legal battle between Lanier and Harvard University over the possession of daguerreotypes of her great-great-great grandfather, an enslaved man named Renty. According to the filmmakers: "The daguerreotypes were commissioned in 1850 by a Harvard professor to 'prove' the superiority of the white race. The images remain emblematic of America’s failure to acknowledge the cruelty of slavery, the racist science that supported it and the white supremacy that continues to infect our society today."

Following the film screening, the school will host a moderated Q&A with Lanier.

This is a free event and seating may be limited; please RSVP to reserve your seat. Please note: the specific on-campus location will be shared a week prior to the event.

Light food and beverages will be served. While this event is open to the Foote community, please be aware that the length of the film and the subject matter might not be appropriate for all audiences.
