Create and Connect with STARS

Are you looking for Saturday morning fun this winter? Consider participating in STARS (Schools Together for Arts Resources). For more than 20 years, STARS has brought together students and teachers from Foote and New Haven public schools for fun and collaborative activities on Saturday mornings. STARS classes are enriching and lively, engaging students in cooking, crafts, singing, writing, multi-media and cultural experiences.

All workshops take place on Saturday mornings from 10-12 pm, in January and February. Dates are: Jan. 5, 12, 19, 26 & Feb. 2.

Each workshop is led by two teachers (one from Foote, another from New Haven Public Schools) and focus on process and interaction. The workshops are free to participants and have equal number of students from each school. Teachers from the two participating schools meet together before the program begins to establish goals and plan curriculum; their collaboration is essential and demonstrates cooperation to the participating students.

Workshops alternate location between Foote and a New Haven public school, broadening children's horizons. Each ends with a culminating activity or event that brings children and their parents together in celebration.

Since its inception, STARS has sponsored almost 100 individual programs that have given children an opportunity to work together to create something satisfying, though the focus is more on process than product.
