Author Talk: Hanna Holborn Gray '43

Academic trailblazer Hanna Holborn Gray (Foote School Class of 1943) will present an author talk and book signing on Thursday, May 17 at 9:00 a.m. in the Perrine Library. Hanna will read from her new book, An Academic Life: A Memoir, released in April from Princeton University Press.

The daughter of academics, Hanna fled Hitler's Germany with her parents in the 1930s and emigrated to New Haven, where her father was a Yale professor. She has studied and taught at some of the world's most prestigious universities and was the first woman to serve as provost of Yale.

In 1978, she became the first woman president of a major research university when she was appointed to lead University of Chicago, a position she held until 1991. That same year, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian honor, in recognition of her extraordinary contributions to education.

This will be Hanna's only appearance in New Haven. Please join us for this very special event!
