Announcing: Poetry Recitation Winners

Nine Foote students took home awards in the annual Connecticut Council of Language Teachers (COLT) Poetry Recitation Contest this year. 

From 401 registered students, representing 43 schools and competing in 17 languages, the following Foote students wowed the judges with a poetry recitation in their chosen language (and earned points for their Maroon or Gray team):

Chinese

7th grade — Molly Larsen, first-place gold medal

8th grade — Ollie Sweet, second-place silver medal

9th grade — Lorenzo Graham, third-place bronze medal

French

9th grade — Dylan Sanchez, second-place silver medal

Latin

7th grade — Bradley DeCew, first-place gold medal

8th grade — Esther Schonberger, first-place gold medal

9th grade — Christian Herron, first-place gold medal

Spanish

7th grade — Luhao Tang, first-place gold medal

8th grade — Cora Lloyd, second-place silver medal

About the contest: COLT presents its annual Poetry Recitation Contest in honor of Paul M. St. Louis every March. This is a popular event with hundreds of students from many schools across the state participating virtually on Zoom. Students compete by reciting poetry selected from the following languages: Albanian, Ancient Greek, Arabic, ASL, Mandarin Chinese, ESOL/ML, French, German, Hebrew, Hindi, Italian, Kannada, Latin, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Tamil.
