What Are We Reading: "From These Roots"

I'm reading From These Roots by Tamara Lanier. Lanier is a friend of Foote school, and an annual speaker in seventh grade.
The heart of this book asks the question: "Who owns the rights to the violence of the past?" Lanier is in an ongoing legal battle with Harvard over the rights to the images of her great-great-great grandfather, Papa Renty, which were taken without his consent as part of a racist scientific study to prove that blacks were inferior to whites, by the Harvard professor, Zoologist, Louis Aggasiz around 1850. It's a rich study of history, familial lineage, and justice.
