Day 4: White House, Unknown Soldier

By Noor Burgess and Clara Lu

On our last day of the D.C. trip, the eighth grade was lucky enough to go on a White House tour! We saw many fancy and important rooms, such as the East Room, Blue Room, Red Room, Green Room, and State Dining Room, that were full of impressive furniture as well as paintings and sculptures depicting presidents such as Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, and John F. Kennedy. Some students even had the opportunity to meet a New York congresswoman who was passing through.

After departing from the White House, the eighth grade visited Arlington National Cemetery. We saw many significant graves, including the graves of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Thurgood Marshall, and Pres. Kennedy.

While visiting the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, four students (Ellie, Gabriel, Safiya, and Tristan) represented Foote by taking part in a wreath-laying ceremony at the tomb.

We ended our visit by eating lunch at Crystal City, and it was very fun because we had independence and we could order from and eat at any restaurant on the street.

On the bus ride home, goofy jokes were flying around; we were tired and excited and spent lots of time reminiscing about moments from throughout the week. We also enjoyed dinner at the Tick Tock diner in New Jersey as our final stop of the trip.

We had such a fun time in D.C. and we were sad to leave. We are so thankful for the opportunity to have had this time together in our nation’s capital.
