Welcome to this year's garden!
By Jennifer Friedman
Foote School Librarian, Garden Coordinator
Our community garden is absolutely thriving. I counted 6 monarchs
fluttering around the annuals planted by the second grade team in June. The herb beds planted by fourth graders are ready to be harvested. Sunflowers
planted by fifth graders are now food for goldfinches. And we have incredible pumpkins
planted by our parent volunteer, Katie Axt, and last year's K and ninth graders just running and ripening and forcing us to turn our attention to October and Halloween. It is nothing short of incredible.
We are thrilled to continue our work and learn from the experts at Common Ground. While Josey will be here on Thursdays, and is hoping to observe and connect with your classes, please visit the garden and use the space as you see fit any day of the week. I am happy to join to help pull radishes, carrots, cut herbs, etc.
We will be ordering bulbs for fall planting, as we have done for the past few years. And we will plant another tree with our friends from Yali, a tradition started last year.
Finally, more information to come about our Community Day on Saturday, Oct. 3, where we will build a digging bed, create a raspberry trellis, do some general clean-up and so much more.
