On Stage: Twelfth Night

On Stage: Twelfth Night

Shipwrecks, revenge, deceit, love — Shakespeare! The makings of a great story come together in the 7th/8th grade production of Twelfth Night, or What You Will Feb. 26–28.

The (double) cast takes on an abridged version of the The Bard's classic topsy-turvy tale of mistaken identity, chaos, and discovering the possibilities of life.

The story: Viola washes up on the shore of Illyria after a shipwreck. Believing her twin brother Sebastian is dead, she disguises herself as a man named Cesario to find work. She becomes a page to Duke Orsino, who is in love with Olivia. Orsino sends Cesario to woo Olivia, but Olivia falls in love with Cesario instead. Meanwhile, Olivia’s pages play a trick on Malvolio (Olivia's steward), making him believe that Olivia loves him. Malvolio acts strangely, leading Olivia to think he has gone mad. Eventually all is revealed, the brother and sister are reunited and the love triangle is resolved into two couples, Sebastian and Olivia, and Viola and Orsino.
