Announcing Our Next Head of Middle School!
We are delighted to announce that Elliot Dickson, currently our Science Department Chair and Middle School Science Teacher, has been appointed the next Head of Middle School at Foote, effective July 1, 2025. Elliot is excited to step into this new role and continue partnering with our outstanding community of middle school teachers, students, and families.
Throughout the search process, Elliot stood out for his deep commitment to middle school education and his thoughtful, student-centered leadership. In his roles as Department Chair, Year
One Program Coordinator, and Science Teacher, Elliot has consistently demonstrated integrity, creativity, and a clear vision for supporting both students and colleagues. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Visual Arts from Bowdoin College and a Master of Education in Teaching and Learning from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. He is also certified in Montessori pedagogy and adolescent development for grades 7–12 by the Association Montessori Internationale.
Elliot brings more than two decades of experience in middle and upper school education, with particular strengths in interdisciplinary curriculum design, teacher mentorship, and student wellness. His leadership roles at Greenspring Montessori, The Spence School, and Westminster School reflect a long-standing commitment to inquiry-based learning, equity, and community-building. In addition to his classroom work, Elliot has played a key role in institutional initiatives, including schedule design, hiring, and the development of professional learning communities.
Elliot shared, “I look forward to serving the middle school faculty and students and the greater Foote community in this new role. My work in the classroom and with colleagues has always centered around my belief that at the heart of what we do each day, as students and faculty, is to think critically, practice new skills, reflect upon our work, and grow in our understanding of ourselves and others. In these ways, we strengthen relationships and uphold one another to be our best selves. I am honored and excited to continue to do this work in a new capacity at Foote.”
During the hiring process, one of Elliot’s former colleagues remarked, “Working with Elliot was a gift, and his integrity is above reproach.” We wholeheartedly agree.
