PTC: Frequently Asked Questions
PTC Helps Build Community
What does PTC stand for?
How does one become a member of the PTC?
To acquaint those new to Foote School with the PTC, we offer the following answers
to commonly asked questions:
What does PTC stand for?
PTC stands for the Parent-Teacher Council of the Foote School
Association, Inc.
How does one become a member of the PTC?
All parents or guardians of current students and all members of the administration
and faculty belong to the PTC. The PTC Committee, which coordinates the
activities of the PTC, is a subset of this larger parent/teacher group. Members
who choose to become Parent Representatives to the PTC Committee are nominated
in the spring of the prior school year, but all are welcome and encouraged to
participate in the work of the PTC.
What does the PTC do?
The first goal of the PTC is to enrich the educational experience of Foote School
students. The PTC assists the faculty and administration in this endeavor by providing
support and funding for extra field trips, special assemblies, purchase of classroom
equipment and materials, faculty development activities, the drug education program, the emergency scholarship fund, vision and hearing screening, and the Summer Read Aloud Program.
To support these programs the PTC stages a variety of fundraisers throughout the year, including the Bulb and Gift Wrap sales, the Book Fair, Class Photos, Stop & Shop Gift Card Sale, Bingo Night, and the Tag Sale. Together these events last year resulted in a net profit of almost $58,000.
The PTC also provides a forum for communication between parents, faculty and ad-
ministrators.
Central to accomplishing this goal is sponsoring evening Topic Sessions
on current issues of concern. Issues that have been addressed in the past include
homework, standardized testing, morality and ethics, and varied curriculum goals.
In addition, monthly PTC Committee meetings, which are open to all members of the
PTC, provide a valuable opportunity for discussion between parents, faculty, and
administrators.
Another important goal of the PTC is community building.
With its record-breaking attendance, the Fall Family Picnic in 2006 was most successful atbringing Foote families together for food and fun on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. Last year we sponsored an olive oil and wine tasting and an auciton (which raised over $55,000), Foote Family Day at the Movies, and lots more.
