WEEK AT A GLANCE on the web

As noted in the September 8 E-News, this year hard copies of Week at a Glance are being sent home only with students in Kindergarten – Grade 3. Everyone else can access the information on the school website. (Hard copies are available at the Front Desk).

Note for ALL parents: The online Week At A Glance is often updated during the week and always includes the most current information.

We plan to send out an E-News every Thursday with a direct link to the page and will include any highlights, but for convenience bookmark Week at a Glance.

PARENTS NIGHT IS NEXT THURSDAY

Parents Night, on September 24, is a very important event – the opportunity to meet your child's teachers and learn about the curriculum and activities planned for the coming year. Don't miss it or the PTC-sponsored buffet dinner and potluck dessert in the Hosley Gym immediately following.

The schedule:

5:30     Grade 6-9 parents go to classrooms
5:45     K - 3 parents begin in the Sandine Theater
Grades 4-5 begin in the Perrine Library
6:15     Classroom presentations for Grades K-5 parents

Note: Parents will receive their 2009- 2010 school directories in their youngest child's classroom.

Buffet dinner:
The PTC is sponsoring a buffet dinner in the Hosley Gym
immediately following the classroom meetings. $10 per person or bring a dessert. Download the RSVP. Remember, Parents Night is just for parents.

MEET XIANG, OUR CHINESE EXCHANGE TEACHER

If you are planning to attend an event or just going on a casual family outing, please keep in mind that Xiang Jiaxiang (a.k.a. Joshua), our Chinese Exchange Teacher, enjoys and learns from all aspects of American life and would love to join you. He will be working with every grade level during the fall term so all Foote students will know him.
Contact Mariann Arnold to add an invitation to his schedule. Tel 777-3474, x215.

DROP OFF, PICKUP AND PARKING

The schoool is aware of the difficulties resulting from the New Haven traffic division's presence on Loomis Place this past week, and we are working with the City of New Haven to resolve the issue. We do acknowledge that Foote does not have adequate parking and hope to add additional spaces as we develop the St. Francis property across Highland Street.

In the meantime:

Try to avoid Loomis Place.
• Grades 4 -9 may be dropped off on either side of Highland Street. Mr. Farley is there to cross students who get off on the Rike Field side of the street.
You can park on Highland Street.
• Grades K- 3 may be dropped off in the Canner Circle, where Liz Reed-Swale or another teacher will be waiting to meet them.

Take advantage of our student escorts.
Beginning late next week, our 8th and 9th Graders in Community Service – in groups of four and five and wearing colorful vests – will be stationed along Loomis Place between the Library end of the main building and the Kindergarten to escort students K-3 from their cars to their classrooms.

Try these early drop-off tips.
Dropping children off just before 8 a.m. lets parents avoid the worst of the traffic. Here's what you need to know if you choose to do this:

• The Perrine Library and the Bus Room (third grade: room L-3) both open at 7:45 a.m.
• Students in Grades K - 3 who arrive before 8 a.m. should go to the Bus Room.
• Students in Grades 4 - 9 who arrive before 8 a.m. may wait in the main office, the Library, or, weather permitting, at the stairway near the Middle School building where the fourth and fifth grade associate teacher is posted from 7:45 a.m. on.

OCTOBER 16 – GRANDPARENTS DAY –
SPECIAL FRIENDS WELCOME

Grandparents of Foote students will soon receive invitations to visit the school on Friday, October 16, from 8:30 - 12:30. If your child's grandparents can't attend, he or she may want to invite an aunt, uncle, or special family friend to school that day. If so, please send the special friend's name and contact information to Amy Caplan (tel: 777-3464 x286) so we can send an invitation and prepare a nametag and schedule.

Parent volunteers are needed for Grandparents Day. If you can help for part or all of the morning, please contact Maria Granquist (tel: 777-3464 x 209). Join us if you can — it's a great day. Training provided!

MIDDLE SCHOOL ACTIVITIES – signed forms due Sept. 21

As outlined in the September 8 E-News, most Middle School activites start next week. Students need to make their decisions and return signed forms to their advisors by Monday, September 21.
