TREE OF LIFE FOR HAITIAN RELIEF IS BLOOMING –
PLEASE HELP IT FL
OURISH

The Tree of Life in the main office is coming into full bloom! One teacher noted, "It's so poignant to see it and feel uplifted by our school's efforts and horrified at the reality of the situation for the people in Haiti." The money our school raises will go to a Haiti relief fund.

As outlined in Carol Maoz's Friday E-Letter, the school is asking that you help your child identify a task or job that he or she can do around the house or for a neighbor or friend for which they could receive payment. This should be outside of any chores that your child does regularly. Students then bring the money they earned to school.  Older students who may already baby-sit or earn money in other ways may bring in that money.

Students write on a paper leaf their name and the job(s) they've done, and the leaf is added to the tree. The children are very proud of this activity, which will continue through Tues., Jan. 26.

Please encourage your child to get involved. The amount of money donated does not matter. Participation does.

CHINA TRIP MEETING FOR 9TH GRADERS AND PARENTS
ON THURS., JAN. 28

The 9th Grade departs for China on March 7, the day after the final performance of their play, "Shipwrecked!" We have scheduled a meeting for parents and students on Thurs., Jan. 28 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Perrine Library to talk about what to expect, what to pack, and how to prepare.  Because there is a great deal of information to impart, we really need at least one adult from each family to attend this meeting. If you cannot attend, please contact Deb Riding (203-777-3464 x244) to set up a separate appointment.

The final cost of the trip is $3,400. Since parents have already paid a deposit of $500, the balance of $2,900 will be charged to the regular Foote bill for February. Families receiving financial aid should, of course, speak with Donna Batsford.

FEEDBACK REMINDER FOR 6TH GRADE PARENTS

Parents of 6th graders were recently asked for their feedback on their child's transition from the Lower School to the Middle School. One of our goals is to determine if there are ways in which we can improve the transition experience for our students. We also want to ensure that students are sufficiently challenged and also feel supported in this new environment.

Those who have not given us feedback have until Tues., Jan 27 to do so.
Click here to access the questionnaire.

ADMISSIONS APPLICATION REMINDER

If you have a child who will be applying for the 2010-2011 school year or know of friends who have children who will be applying, please note that the deadline for applications is Feb. 1.

COMMUNITY SERVICE NOTES

Mountain of Warmth continues through Jan. 29. Please bring any donations of coats, scarves, gloves, hats, etc. to the box in the Front Office. Adult clothing is the primary need, but children's items would also be greatly appreciated.
