* STARS* ARTS ENRICHMENT CLASSES TO BEGIN JAN. 16
Since 1994, Foote School has been involved in Saturday morning collaborations with neighborhood public schools. Called *STARS* [Schools Together for Arts ResourceS], these cooking, crafts, multi-media, and cultural programs have been elective, involving equal numbers of students and teachers from participating schools meeting together for a series of workshops culminating in a special community event.
The groups are small, stressing process and interaction. The experience has been meaningful for students and teachers alike, broadening horizons and expanding repertoires.
There is no charge for the programs. For winter 2010 four *STARS* programs are being offered on Saturday mornings from Jan. 16 through Mar. 6 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon:
Cooking with Stories (ages 5-7)
Foote & Davis Magnet School
Hello!/Hola! (ages 6-8)
Foote & Strong School
Acting Out Stories (3rd - 5th Graders)
Foote & John C. Daniels School
Art for All (ages 6-9)
Foote & Jepson Magnet School
To learn more about each course and to access the simple enrollment form, visit the *STARS* page of the Foote Web site.
SCHOOL DELAYS & CANCELLATIONS: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Foote School Automated Telephone Alert System:
Due to an unforeseen glitch, the call from our Automated Telephone Alert System did not go through on Monday, Janaury 4 when we indeed had a one-hour delay. We have addressed that glitch and have confidence in the system working correctly in the future. Please be aware, though, that there is not a 100 percent success rate for all calls getting through with any of these automated services.
If you have reason to believe that school may be delayed or cancelled and you have not received an automated call, be sure to check one of the places school delays and cancellations are posted:
- WFSB TV Channel 3
- WTNH TV Channel 8
- NBC TV Channel 30
- The Foote School Web site (information will be posted on the homepage under the main photo)
- Foote's answering machine (203-777-3464)

Grades 6-9 – Go to homeroom and proceed to third period class at usual time, 10:15.
PARKING ON HIGHLAND STREET
Our goals are to keep everyone safe, keep the crosswalk visible, and ensure that there's adequate space for families to pull in and drop their Middle School children off in the mornings.
So:
On the school side: do not park below the orange cone. We need to keep that area free from cars for morning drop off, to ensure visibility, and so that large vehicles such as school buses and delivery trucks can pass without incident.
On the field side: do not park on the street between the entrance to Rike Field and the entrance to the faculty parking lot.
COMMUNITY SERVICE NOTES
Knit with Community Service – parents and teachers are most welcome to help students knit scarves for Columbus House. Ways you can help: donate yarn, donate knitting needles, help teach students to knit, or come knit with us. Dates: Thursdays on Jan. 14, 21, and 28 from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. in the art room.
Mountain of Warmth continues through Jan. 29, 2010. Please bring any donations of coats, scarves, gloves, hats, etc. to the box in the Front Office. Adult clothing is the primary need, but children's items would also be greatly appreciated.
New Haven Reads Thanks Foote – On Pajama Day on Dec. 8 students were encouraged to bring a used or new book to donate to New Haven Reads. John Cunningham drove his truck to deliver 11 boxes of books, and the school received a lovely thank you describing how the books were distributed, primarily to children in Newhallville via the Police Department.
