Veena Raghuvir Named School Counselor

Dear Parents:

I want to bring to your attention that after a considerable search, we have hired a school counselor. In my next parent letter I shall provide details, but here is a brief description of Veena Raghuvir:

Veena will join us for Wednesdays, sharing her time with both middle and lower divisions. She presently is the interim social worker at John Read Middle School: Reading, Easton, and Region 9 District.

Over the course of her career, Veena worked in Bath, Maine, and Colorado Springs, Colorado. She graduated from the University of Bridgeport, earning a BA. At Teachers College, Columbia University she gained an MA in Special Education and from the University of Michigan obtained her MSW.

Veena will become our full time school counselor next September. Foote is lucky to have her.

Head of School Search Consultants to Visit Foote

Parent Meetings with the school's consultants, Linc Eldredge and Jessica Cockrell of Brigham Hill Consultancy, are scheduled for:

 Monday, January 14 from 7:30 - 8:30 p.m. – Sandine Theater.
Tuesday, January 15 from 8:00 - 9:30 a.m. – Sandine Theater.

The Head of School Search Committee strongly encourages parents to take the time to meet with Linc and Jessica. The better they come to know Foote, the better they will be able to help us find a great new Head.


STARS (Schools Together for Arts ResourceS) ...

*STARS* was formed in 1994 to offer New Haven school students from a wide variety of backgrounds a way to find common ground, expand their horizons, experience wonderful arts opportunities, and have a great time! It also offers teachers an important chance to work together.

The first collaboration was in the winter of 1994. Since then *STARS*has sponsored 59 programs. This winter Foote is offering three programs, which are free to all participants:

  * Cooking with Stories!  – 5-7 year olds: Foote, King/Robinson School

  * Hello/Hola! – 6-8 year olds: Foote, Timothy Dwight School

  * Africa! China! Mexico! – 8-9 year olds: Foote, John C. Daniels School

Applications for Fall 2008 Admission Due February 1

Check the Admissions page of the website or call the Admissions Office if you need applicaiton materials.


Winter Sports

Come talk with other MAG parents and get to know Patty Chamberlain, the new Lower School Head. Learn more about the philosophy behind Foote's Mixed Age Group program and hear from Leslie Long, Lower School science coordinator.
