GIFTS TO ENDOWMENT

There may be no better barometer of a school’s long-term fiscal health
than the strength of its endowment.  Endowment provides annual support
for the operating budget, drawing from the interest earned on invested funds. 
The principle is not spent, so the Endowment an important and reliable source of income beyond tuition.

Each year The Foote School benefits from a number of Endowed Funds
established by parents and past parents, alumnae/i, and friends of the school and held within the school’s Endowment. Current endowed funds support a variety of important areas, including Foote’s financial aid program, science teaching, mathematics enrichment, faculty professional development, and the Frank M. Perrine Library.

Some History
Foote’s endowment was initiated in the early 1980’s. An investment of about
$300,000 eventually returned over $1.65 million, providing the nucleus for
an endowment that has grown to over $7.5 million and now generates more
than $200,000 annually for the school’s operations. For many supporters,
contributions to endowment are attractive because they support the school on
an on-going basis, in perpetuity.

Establishing Funds
Some funds are established with gifts from a large number of supporters.
Other funds have been created by an individual family or members of a particular class. An initial gift if $5000 is required to establigh a new fund, and contributions can be made at any time. Income of approximately 4.5 % is drawn annually from each fund.

Ways to give to the Foote School Endowment:

• Send a contribution to an established fund or simply to general endowment,
  which supports all aspects of school life.
  
• Establish an endowed fund in honor of a family or family member,
  a favorite classmate, teacher, or program at the school.
  
• Establish an Annual Fund Endowment:  Ensure that your annual support of Foote will continue in perpetuity. A one-time gift of $5,000 would provide an annual gift in your name of approximately $250.
