Chess is the world's most fascinating game, a favorite through the centuries. This is an activity that requires critical thinking, problem solving, creativity, strategic planning, pattern recognition, analysis, good sportsmanship and more. This summer we are once again privileged to have Jim Celone, USCF Certified Chess Coach and Tournament Director, and his associates teaching this course. Let's Make Dolls
Have you ever wanted to create and make your own doll? In this course, we will be designing and crafting many different types of dolls: rag dolls, fairies and worry dolls, just to name a few. With a little sewing, gluing and creativity you will take home dolls that are not only fun to play with but that will be a special keepsake as well.

Experience everything in and around restaurants, from planning menus to the behind-the-scenes food preparation. We will visit several different kinds of restaurants, including a pizzeria, bakery and soul food establishment.
Pajama Making

ANYONE can learn to sew! This course is designed to teach the basics of sewing, but experienced sewers are welcome, as well. You will learn how to read a sewing pattern, rules of laying out and cutting pattern pieces from a length of fabric. You'll also learn how to operate a sewing machine safely and the particulars of hand sewing the finishing details.
Woodworking

Join semiprofessional woodworker and full time woods/construction teacher Harold Ellis for this perennial favorite. Students will learn how to use basic hand tools to build their own projects. Past projects include bird houses, tools, organizers and toys.

The Art of the Shape

Two- and three- dimensional shapes are the building blocks of a week of collage, paint, print and sculpture. We will end the week with a large-scale cardboard creation. Build a house, a rocket, a pirate ship or whatever you can imagine.
Baking

Come have a blast preparing some delicious treats! We’ll start off the week with a berry-picking excursion and spend the rest of the week having a baking, preparing and eating fest. Some sample menu items are ice cream cake, jelly rolls, jam, cookies and cupcakes.
