The 9th Grade Year

Ninth grade is the capstone year of the Foote experience. It affords students a series of exceptional opportunities for academic and personal growth. High school-level courses include lab-based biology, Comparative Cultures and a roundtable English class that stretches students to analyze literature critically and to craft personal-narrative essays, creative compositions and poetry.

Ninth graders form close bonds that support students as they move through a challenging and exciting year, from a retreat on Cape Cod and ninth grade play to the two-week China trip and Poetry Cabaret. Ninth graders assume leadership roles in every aspect of school life, allowing them to enter high school with greater confidence and academic readiness.

A highlight of ninth grade is the two-week trip to China. Students visit historic and cultural sights they have studied, and spend four days at Foote’s sister school, Yali, where they stay with Chinese host families.
