Desktop Navigation and Operation
find applications and documents if they’re not sitting on the desktop or in the dock
create and name folders to organize your files
add an icon to your dock (OSX)
navigate when saving a document so that it saves in a specific folder and not just on the desktop
know the difference between ‘save’ and ‘save as’
find a document if you’ve forgotten where you put it
regularly back up your work
copy documents from a hard drive to other media (CD, flash drive)
open and close and quit an application
determine the size of a document or photo
unlock a file
understand common suffixes such as .jpeg, .doc, .txt, .xls
choose a printer
shut down a computer
log out of user account

Word Processing (as it applies to Microsoft Word, Pages, Text Edit, Keynote)
spell check
cut, copy, paste

format document using Formatting Palatte, not space bar & return

Basic Troubleshooting
Restart computer by pushing power button and holding for 10 seconds
Force quit applications using Apple-Option-Escape
Check cables to make sure they are plugged in
Check to see what printer you’re using, that there is paper in the printer

Printer
find an alternative printer on the network when yours doesn’t work
choose from different available printers
find a printer using Print Center (OS X)
change page orientation from landscape to portrait
fit data to one page if it’s a spreadsheet or chart
print one page or selected pages from your document
set up double sided printing
create PDF from print dialogue

Scanner
scan photos at a resolution of 72 dpi
crop and size photographs
save photos in appropriate sizes for e-mail and web

FileMaker for Comment Writing
download your template from your e-mail
enter and spell-check comments on the template
select and sort records from the entire database
print one or all records from a found set
e-mail completed report to the registrar

create simple database for organizing records

narrow web searches using Boolean perameters
