Since its founding in 1916, Foote has reflected its motto, which translates to: “Gladly will I learn and gladly teach.”
We nurture a lifelong love of learning and teaching in our students and faculty. Committed to excellence, teachers lead children to question, to discover connections, to think independently, and to learn by doing. Our community is inclusive; we value difference and challenge prejudice. We give our students the skills to explore the world’s complexity with joy and purpose and to respect themselves and each other.
Educational Philosophy
Foote is a vibrant place where teachers strive to balance exuberance
with reflection. Every effort is made to help children achieve their
potential with limited class size, small group instruction, and attention to the individual in an encouraging atmosphere.
Teachers provide careful grounding in verbal and numerical skills while fostering creativity and self-confidence. These skills are integrated into a rich and imaginative curriculum of literature, history, mathematics, science, technology, writing, foreign languages, the arts and athletics.
Foote cultivates an atmosphere of mutual consideration and respect through close relationships among teachers, students, and parents. We emphasize the necessity for cooperative effort, accountability for one’s actions, the value of service to the school community and the world beyond, and the many satisfactions of kindness to others.
