NOTICE OF ANNUAL MEETING • 2008

The Annual Meeting of the Foote School Association, Inc. will be held in the Robert Sandine Theater of the School, 50 Loomis Place, on Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at 7:00 p.m., to elect Directors as specified below, to hear the reports of the Head of School, President, and Treasurer, and to conduct such other business as may properly come before the meeting.

All parents and faculty members are welcome to attend the meeting.  Every parent or guardian of a child enrolled and in attendance at the School is a member of the Association and entitled to participate and to vote at the Annual Meeting.

The evening’s schedule:

7:15 pm       Business Meeting
                     – Vote on nominees to Board of Directors
                     – Vote on nominees to PTC Committee

7:30              Featured speaker: Akhil Reed Amar P '16, '14


Akhil Amar, Southmayd Professor of Law and Political Science at Yale Law School, whose course in Constitutional Law has inspired hundreds of Yale undergraduates, will share his insights and observations regarding the current presidential election. Akhil was recognized last month with the William Clyde Devane Award for Distinuguished Teaching and Scholarship. His most recent book is America’s Constitution: A Biography.

Report of The Foote School Association Nominating Committee

The Nominating Committee submits the following nominations for Directors, with terms ending June 30, 2012.

The attention of the Association is directed to Article VI of the Bylaws which provides that additional nominations may be made by petition.  Such a petition must be signed by at least ten (10) members of the Association and be delivered to the Secretary at least two (2) weeks before the date of the meeting, (May 14, 2008).

About the Nominees:

Sidney Bogardus
First elected to the board in 2004, Sid is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the Yale School of Medicine. He grew up in New York City and attended Phillips Exeter Academy and Yale. Sid holds an MD from Columbia, trained at the University of Chicago, and returned to Yale as a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar in 1995. His hobbies and interests include opera, flying, squash, tennis, rowing, sailing and flyfishing. He and his wife, Julia, live in Woodbridge with their five children (Hannah and Will '06, Maggie '08, Gordon '09 and Nate '14), three dogs, cat, rabbit, and 20 chickens.

James B. Farnam '65 
Jim is a Partner at Holt, Wexler & Farnam, LLP, a New Haven-based consulting firm providing planning and management services to the public and non-profit sectors in Connecticut and the Northeast.  Before joining the firm, he worked for the City of New Haven for 10 years, the last three as Director of the Office of Downtown and Harbor Development. A Wallingford native he attended Phillips Academy Andover, Yale University (BA), and the University of Pennsylvania (master’s in City and Regional Planning). His son Tim '97, stepson Zach Gavin '99, and his five siblings also attended Foote, and daughter Elsa Rose is in MAG. His wife Marcy Tench Stovall is Counsel to the firm Tyler, Cooper & Alcorn, LLP in New Haven. They live in the East Rock neighborhood of New Haven.  He serves on several local non-profit Boards focused on community development and youth issues.

Joanne Samuel Goldblum
Joanne is the founder and president of the Diaper Bank, formerly the New Haven Diaper Bank, which distributes free diapers to needy families through a network of social service agencies, churches and educational institutions. She was chosen as a 2007 Robert Wood Johnson Community Health Leader for her work. She is also a board member at Edith B. Jackson Childcare Center and serves on New Haven's Early Childhood Council and New Haven's Homeless Commission. She has been an active proponent of Foote’s STARS program.  Joanne lives in New Haven with her husband David, who teaches history at Hillhouse High School, and their three children, Jesse '07, Molly, '09 and Sherman '13. She has a BA from New York University and an MSW from Hunter College School of Social Work.

Heidi Hamilton
Elected to the Board in 2006, Heidi is a native of Los Angeles, California, who grew up in Stony Brook, New York. After 13 years as a commercial litigator in Manhattan, she moved to Connecticut in 1996. Her work has included various positions in non-profit organizations, most recently the Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism. She is currently a consultant. Heidi and her two children, Kela Caldwell ’09 and Omari Caldwell ’13, live in Hamden. She has a BA from Wellesley College and a JD from the Boalt School of Law at the University of California, Berkeley.                                                                                   
Mary Hu
A member of the board since 2005, Mary is Director of Institutional Planning and Communications at the Yale School of Medicine and Director of Strategic Development and Marketing for the school's clinical group practice, the Yale Medical Group. She attended Phillips Academy Andover, Yale University and the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School. Her husband, Jon Knisely, is a radiologist at Yale-New Haven Hospital. They live in New Haven with their children, Ian '05, Toby '09, and Gabriel '10. Mary’s hobbies include knitting, reading and music. 

David Moore
David Moore has been a member of the board since 2004. David is an architect with an office in Woodbridge, where he and his wife, Debby, live. They have two children, George '99 and Grace '04. David served on the Building Committee during the construction of the art/music building and theater/gym addition. David received a BA from Williams College and an MArch from the Graduate School of Design at Harvard.
